Change

Many of us easily fall into a routine and don't like when it is changed or interrupted. If you know a child, who is slow to warm up to changes or new people, "Say Hello to Zorro!", by Carter Goodrich is a great book for you.  A presenter at a workshop introduced this book to me and it is one I want to use with my class.

Mister Bud, a dog and the main character in this story, has his own house, his own dish, his own bed, and his own schedule. When Zorro, a new dog arrives, Mister Bud feels his world has been turned upside down. In then the two dogs turn out to be friends, but you can probably imagine, it isn't easy at first.

A good book for children don't like change and will be facing a new experience soon. The short, simple text makes the book good for even the 2 year olds.  Talk with the children about how things may change, but also about how things might be better. Children will enjoy talking about how things changed at their house when a new baby arrived or when a grandparent moved in or even a new step parent.

We all have changes in our life and this book is a fun way to bring up the topic.  Enjoy!!
